Looking for Next Year’s Figurehead

Everything happens so quickly this time of year. The board met yesterday to discuss plans for this year’s sale, new categories for next year and how we’re going to revise the application process. (And we made waffles.) Wristbands went on sale just past the stroke of midnight– and we’ll start mailing those on Tuesday morning. Posters and postcards and business cards and banners are all on their way to the printer. We’re arranging for forklifts and rented tables and making a map of the new layout (as much like the old layout as possible) for our new digs at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds.

In the midst of this we have to look forward enough to 2019 to choose a figurehead for our 49th sale, so that we can have bookmarks available to give out at our 48th sale. In the past we’ve featured Abraham Lincoln, and Jane Austen and this year Dayton’s own Paul Laurence Dunbar.

In keeping with the local theme, we’re considering Natalie Barney, or Virginia Hamilton or Tecumseh. Maybe we need to look towards a broader realm– to Maya Angelou or Zora Neale Hurston or Geronimo. Mark Twain? Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings? Agatha Christie? Maybe a living writer? If you have suggestions, we’d love to hear them.

Wristband Day Sunday October 1st!

Wristband Day is nearly here! Beginning at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, October 1st you can order wristbands through our website that will secure your place in line on Opening Day of the Book Fair.

The wristbands are numbered sequentially and admission will be in the order of wristband number, with the lowest number being first in the door. The price is still just $11 for all day Friday (with in and out privileges of course). You can save a dollar by buying a wristband at the door that Friday, but you will be much further back in the line.

The link to the wristband page is here, If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to give us a call at 937.999.4491 or send us message through our website or Facebook pages.

Wristband Update

Time is just flying by!  Only a few short days before we open the doors for our biggest sale in a long, long time. Wristband numbers are still under 100 (ie. you’d be among the first 100 folks in the door) and will be available to order for “Will Call” pickup until Thursday, November 12 at 9 pm. Eastern standard time. Since we are mostly away from the office now, they are only available through the Wristband tab here on our web site at this time.

The number one wristband — first in the line! — for our 2016 sale will be offered in our silent auction, with an opening bid of $11. It is in “pre-sale before publication” as-new condition.

Look for us at noon on Wednesday at noon on WDTN’s Living Dayton, where we’ll be talking about Ohio’s biggest book sale and showing them a few very special books.

Yes, there’s still time to get a Wristband!

campers

Just think, you don’t have to drive over a day early to leave your box (or chair, or milk crate) in the line. You don’t have to camp out in the parking lot, in mid-November. You can just pre-order your wristband and we’ll send it to you. Pre-sale wristbands are $11 each.

The last day to order a wristband and have it sent through the mail is Friday, November 6th at 5 p.m. eastern standard time. Before the Friday deadline, you can order them online at this link “Wristbands” or by telephone at our office (937) 999-4491.

But even after that, you can still order a wristband and pick it up at will-call at the Fairgrounds Friday morning. The wristbands are sequentially numbered, and the line to get in will be in numerical order. If you are ordering wristbands for pick up at will call, we can only take orders online– as there will be no one at the office to answer the phone. (We’re all working on setting up the Book Fair.)

Of course, we’ll sell the wristbands on the line too. They are $10 day of sale, and with a wristband you can come and go as you please throughout the day. Everyone in your group needs a wristband for admittance, including teens over 16. Children younger than 16 are admitted free in the company of their parents or another responsible adult.
